The charity mission behind rally books continues

(27. 04. 2024)

Making readers happy, keeping motorsport alive and helping children – these are the crucial attributes behind the work of Dan Porazil, whose books have literally been devoured by his readership since 2007. The recently published biography of legendary Norweigan John Haugland was no exception.

This bio book, which maps out the career of the legendary Škoda factory team driver, was brought out at the end of October last year and completely sold out within just a few weeks. “There was really a lot of interest from the very first day. Attendance at the book launch ceremony already suggested it would be quite something as it included, besides the book’s main character, Fred Gallagher, a co-driver for five world champions throughout his career,“ the book’s author explained.

During the ceremony the writer also made his usual promise to use some of the proceeds of the sale of the book to buy equipment for the children’s ward at Claudian’s Hospital in Mladá Boleslav. “I’m glad that Dan uses his books to help children and I feel especially pleased that it will also be my story that will help these little patients,“ John Haugland said. Although the main hero wasn’t present as a symbolic cheque for over fifty-five thousand crowns was handed over on March 27, he put an unequivocal stamp of approval on the purchase of the equipment children need.

MUDr. Jaroslava Chrtková, head of the children’s department, didn’t try to conceal her joy either. “To be honest, I’m not a follower of rally at all. I’m therefore always surprised to learn what kind of themes and characters appear in the ever-growing range of Dan Porazil’s books. And the fact that they’re a vehicle to provide help to children? It’s a really significant message and an example for society as a whole these days,“ she shared her thoughts and added that the funds raised had been used to buy medical equipment to facilitate examinations of small patients and make any hospital stay, if it was necessary, as pleasant as possible for them.

The biography, backed among others by car manufacturer Škoda Auto and the statutory town of Mladá Boleslav, is currently sold out. Reprinting is now under consideration as there’s continuous demand for books about Roman Kresta and John Haugland.

“We’re talking to our partners at the moment to see what the options are but nothing specific has come out yet. However, I can promise with some amount of certainty that another book is going to be published this year, and it will be a very unusual one,“

Dan Porazil added and concluded by confirming that its main theme would again be rally.
